Miami Beach to Spend $600 Million on Redesign of Convention Center and Jackie Gleason Theater

After debating into the wee hours of the night on July 17, the Miami Beach City Commission chose South Beach ACE to redesign the 52-acre Miami Beach Convention Center, including the historic Jackie Gleason Theater.

The $600 million price tag will be funded by public money from a county bond, an increased local hotel tax, and an extension of a special taxing district in South Beach, according to the Miami Herald. Residents will have the final say with a vote in November.
